Karin was born June 11, 1959 in Albuquerque, NM to Karl and Ruth Gustafson who preceded her in death. Karin loved Jesus, her family and her country. Her dedication to her children was unwavering. She knew before either of them was born they would be attending Mesilla Valley Christian School. Sports, music, projects, playdates, church, mission trips, everything, Karin was the one who signed them up, got them up, geared them up and got them there on time. Following a close second was her dedication to the pecan industry, the Las Cruces real estate community and Mesilla Valley Christian Schools. Karin was one of the founders and past presidents of the Arizona Pecan Growers Association, past president of Western Pecan Growers Association, Dona Ana County Farm Bureau, and Las Cruces Multiple Listing Service. She was the current president of the Las Cruces Association of Realtors and was currently serving on the board of Mesilla Valley Christian Schools. Earlier in her career she was farm manager for Arizona Farm Management in Wenden, AZ, Silver Farms in San Miguel, NM and most recently she was an associate broker with Exit Realty Horizons. Karin also served at various times in her life as a volunteer firefighter, Pi Beta Phi Alumni Chapter President, Bible study leader and American Heritage Girl leader. Karin received a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and a Master's of Science from NMSU, completing her thesis on pecans. Karin gained her love of outdoors and horticulture from her dad. Side by side, they enjoyed gardening in the back yard and fishing for trout on the Pecos River. Her dad was also her inspiration for honesty, integrity, generosity, hard work and love of animals. In spite of the playful torture inflicted upon her by her loving brothers (nine and ten years older than her) she always spoke of the affection, respect and admiration she had for them. Often mentioning that the "torture" was part of what made her tough, willing and able to fight for what was important to her. She always stood with hand over heart for the National Anthem and whispered "amen" after the pledge of allegiance. Karin could simultaneously cheer and scold her favorite teams the Aggies, Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs. Karin is survived by her husband Jon, son Derek, daughter Kathrine, mother-in-law Evelyn Davidson , her brother Karl and his wife Wendy and their children John and Michelle as well as her brother Eric and his wife Carolyn and their son Chris and his wife Alex , her brother-in-law Dean Davidson, his wife Carmen and their daughters Elena and Elisa and her step-sister Linda Cobb and her husband Larry . A celebration of her life will be held Monday, June 13th, 11:00 A.M. at Calvary Baptist Church, 1800 South Locust Street. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Mesilla Valley Christian Schools, 3850 Stern Drive, Las Cruces, NM 88001 www.mvcsonline.com PDF Printable Version
