It is with deep sadness that we share the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Kay W. Cannon, following a sudden stroke. Kay was born on October 30, 1931 in Carlsbad, NM and graduated from Carlsbad High School. She grew up riding horses and loved spending time with her father riding on the ranch that they owned. She went to college her freshman year at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and decided it was too cold there for her, so she transferred to the University of New Mexico and earned her bachelor's degree in Business Administration. While there, she met her husband, Frederick W. "Bill" Cannon, and they married in 1953. They lived in California and Albuquerque during which time they had their three children. In 1964 Kay and Bill moved to Carlsbad where they had a CPA firm. Kay was in her 40's when she went back into accounting and passed all parts of the CPA exam on her first try. Kay continued to work at the CPA firm until her husband Bill's passing. She moved to Las Cruces in 1999 and enjoyed her retirement years going to the gym with her friends, gardening, reading and pursuing genealogy. Kay will be remembered for the love she felt toward her children, and she provided for them in every way. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Fred and Ruth Westfall of Carlsbad, NM, and by her husband, Frederick W. Cannon of Carlsbad, NM. She is survived by her brother Dr. Frank Westfall (Marcia) of Carlsbad, NM, and by her three children: daughter Dr. Virginia Cannon (Lon Sullivan) of Olympia, WA; daughter Christine May of Las Cruces; and son Dr. Craig Cannon (Estella) of Las Cruces. She is also survived by grandchildren Hannah and Samuel Cannon, and four nieces and nephews. Services will be held later this summer Contributions can be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice in her honor.
