Kenneth Guynn died the morning of Friday, the 15th, of January 2010 at the age of 82. He was born May 6th, 1927 in Las Cruces, NM. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Myra Letcher-Guynn. The couple married in 1949. He was the father of Kenneth Jr., Jim, Ray, and George Guynn. His daughter in-laws include Carmen, Karen, Vickie, and Kathleen. He was the grandfather of seven grandchildren: Alex, Gabriel, Eric, Jerica, Kathryn, Ashley, and Kaitlin. Ken was predeceased by his sisters: Edith Gilmer, Ethel Wilbur, Katie Etherton, Juanita Fritz, Louise Dickens, and Ruth Williams. Ken was a graduate of Las Cruces High School in 1944 and served his Country in WWII and Korea where he served in combat. He attended New Mexico State University and was a proud member of the Aggie football team. There he continued to earn several degrees, including his doctorate in Education. He taught school in Gadson, Hatchita, and Las Cruces, NM. He was a guidance counselor at T or C Municipal Schools. He further coached and mentored many young people in football, basketball, baseball, and rodeo, winning several state championships over the years. He helped build Conlee Elementary School's baseball field, planted trees at Apodaca Park with the Jaycees, was a volunteer EMT, founded the Rescue Squad in T or C, NM, was a member of the Lions Club, Mesilla Valley RV club, and past president of the Jaycees. He served as a Lay Pastor with the Methodist Church, providing ministry to outlying areas of New Mexico. He assisted many young people in attending college with encouragement, guidance, and finding financial means. He was committed to making higher education an important part of many individuals' lives. His legacy lives on in many generations of parents, children, and grandchildren that his efforts and commitment impacted in nearly 50 years of service in public schools and volunteer work. Pallbearers include his four sons, nephew Bob Williams, and friend Clyde Treat. Honorary pallbearers are friends: Archie Beckett, Clarence Fielder, Tom Fletcher, Dean Thomas, Jerry Edgar and his grandsons: Alex, Gabriel, and Eric Guynn. Charitable contributions in Ken's name may be made in lieu of flowers to Morningstar Methodist Church or the Salvation Army. Funeral services will be held in Las Cruces, NM, at Morningstar Methodist Church on Friday, January 22nd at 10AM. PDF Printable Version
