Larry Sowder, 67, Las Cruces resident since 2003, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 after a several month illness from cancer. He was born Jan. 26, 1944 in Vallonia, Indiana. He was a veteran of the US Air Force where he served our country honorably during the Vietnam Era with the 9th Aerospace Division in Alaska and Colorado. Larry Sowder, 67, Las Cruces resident since 2003, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 after a several month illness from cancer. He was born Jan. 26, 1944 in Vallonia, Indiana. He was a veteran of the US Air Force where he served our country honorably during the Vietnam Era with the 9th Aerospace Division in Alaska and Colorado. He was a graduate of Indiana University-Bloomington, earning AB and MBA degrees. His working career spanned 35 plus years in financial management and consulting, primarily in the telecommunications industry. Before retirement in 2009, he held the position of Controller at the Las Cruces Sun-News from 2006 to 2009. Mr. Sowder will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Maryann Sowder of the family home, brother Keith Sowder and wife Sharon of Punta Gorda, FL, and brother-in-laws/sister-in-law George Bolte and wife Sandra of Las Cruces and Chuck Bolte and wife Soozi of Fountain Hills, AZ plus numerous nieces and nephews.
