Laura Wynne Coleman Bierck left this earth on Friday, November 21, 2008. She was born in Greensboro, Alabama on February 12, 1916. She graduated with a degree in teaching from a private women's college in 1937. She later joined the Red Cross and traveled throughout Europe during World War II. It was there that she met her future husband, William, a Sergeant in the Air Force. They were married June 2, 1947 in Germany and honeymooned in Alsace-Lorraine, France. Their son William was born in Germany on April 5, 1948. They transferred back to the states where their second son Wynne was born on May 26, 1949 in Selma Al. After staying home with her children for five years, she resumed her career of teaching and touched the lives of many children throughout the United States, a; the way from Florida to California. After being transferred to Holloman Air Force Base, Laura worked for several years as a fourth grade teacher and eventually retired from teaching in 1978. They finally made their last home in Las Cruces to be closer to family. Laura always enjoyed traveling, having visited many different countries throughout the world. Her greatest joy however was spending time with her family. True to her southern roots, she eluded charm and was a lady in every aspect of her life. She strived to bring out the best in everyone she knew, her kind spirit and loving heart will never be forgotten. Laura is survived by her sons William Jay Bierck, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM and Wynne Coleman Bierck and his wife Carole of Las Cruces, NM. She is also survived by her granddaughters, who affectionately called her Lally, Kristen Roybal and her husband Miguel of Tucson, AZ; Laura Bierck of Dallas, TX; Katie Bierck of Las Cruces, and Carrie Bierck of College Station, TX. Laura also leaves behind her brother, Harris and his wife Gladys of Sawyerville, AL as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bestor Wynne and Alice Waller Coleman; her husband William Jay Bierck; her brothers, Wynne Coleman and Osmund Coleman; and her sisters, Mary Coleman Christian and Alice Coleman. Funeral Services for Laura will be at 1 pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at University Presbyterian Church, 2010 Wisconsin Ave, with burial to follow at Masonic Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor John Pickett. Serving, as pallbearers will be William Bierck, Wynne Bierck, Miguel Roybal, Matthew Gurule, Terry Delzer, and Michael Delzer.
