Laverne Marie Kenny, of Radium Springs, NM, 91, passed away on May 26, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Laverne is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dale Kenny, father, Henry Apking, and mother Carrie Apking (Aden) as well as her four brothers: Lawrence, Clarence, Everett, and Marvin. She is survived by step-children Johanna Baumbaugh of Evansville, IN; Deborah Seago of Claremore, OK and her husband John; John Kenny of Tulsa, OK; Heidi Haywood of Truth or Consequences, NM; and D. Allen Kenny of Omaha, NE and his wife Brooke, as well as many grandchildren, great, and great-great grandchildren. Laverne was born April 1, 1931 in the rural village of Obert, Nebraska. She grew up living the rigors of farm life and loved the countryside and the benefits it brought, such as horseback riding and growing things from the earth. She brought this determined Midwest work ethic to everything she did. Those who knew her know that she never shied away from a challenge and loved to keep busy. She loved gardening, cooking, crafting, crochet, and especially quilting. Many of her family's beds are adorned with her beautiful quilts. She married the love of her life, Robert Dale Kenny in April 1976 and became a loving mother to his children. After her husband passed, she continued to be active at the Radium Springs community center quilting group and loved to play dominoes and various other games with the many friends she made in the community. Laverne had an unwavering faith in God and her faith only increased in her later years. She gained strength and a positive outlook through daily scripture reading in her Bible and Portals of Prayer. Laverne was loved by many and her positive attitude, generous spirit and kind heart left an impression on the people in her life. Her family and friends will miss her presence in their lives, but rejoice and find solace in the knowledge that she is at peace in the arms of Christ's unconditional love. There will be a viewing on June 1st, 2022 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10:30. Both will be at the Mission Lutheran Church, 2752 Roadrunner Parkway, Las Cruces, New Mexico, 88011.
