Leon "Lee" Sheram, 79, of Hatch, NM passed away at Mountain View Hospital Sunday morning Jan. 9th in Las Cruces. Lee was born Dec. 31, 1925 in Bayview, Alabama. Lee served with distinction as an officer in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater, WW II aboard the USS Solomans. After his military service Lee attended Sanford University in Birmingham, AL. He graduated in 1950 with a degree in Pharmacy. He married Florence Turner May 6, 1955 in Pasadena, TX. Lee worked as a pharmacist and he and Florence purchased Busby Rexall Drug Store in Hatch, NM in 1968. After retiring from self-employment he re-entered pharmacy at the Texas State Center in El Paso. He retired Dec. 2003. Lee enjoyed ham amateur radio, photography and music and was very active in his church and community. Lee is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Florence Sheram of the family home; brother Ralph and wife Wanda Sheram of Texas; children John and wife Jeton Edge of Denver, CO, Dwayne and wife Sheryl Sykes of Rio Rancho, NM, Doug and wife Sharon Sheram of Corrales, NM, Tim and Janice Goodman of Safford, AZ, and Lane and Bernice Sheram of Mesilla Park, NM; grandchildren Jenny, Randy, Amber, Dusty, Leah, Jason, Damon, Jamey, Tara, Lauren, Melissa and Michael; great-grandchildren Caitlin, Cassidy, Gage, Kaylie, Lucas, Kyrtis, Chandler, Damian and Nikki; sister-n-law Clarice Sheram. Lee was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Ethel Sheram, a brother Harry, son Mark and granddaughter Rebecca. A visitation and viewing will be held from 9 to 10:30 AM Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at the L.D.S. Church, Herrera Road in Hatch, NM where funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Branch President Ken Thurston officiating. Burial will be at Garden of Memories in Hatch, NM. Pallbearers will be Lee's sons and grandsons. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Victims of Tsunami Relief Fund; Americares Foundation, 88 Hamilton Ave., Stamford, CT, 06909.
