Lewanna Howard Pippen passed away on November 27, 2020 at the Arbors (Vista Living) due to Dementia and COPD. Lewanna was born August 24, 1941 in Borger, Texs. In 1956, Lewanna's parents moved to Eunice, New Mexico where she graduated from Eunice High School in 1959. She continued her education by earning a BS in Education from Eastern New Mexico University in 1963. She later earned a Master of Arts in teaching at NMSU in 1970.

Lewanna married her high school sweetheart Tom Pippen on August 16, 1963. They celebrated 57 years together on August 16, 2020. In late August of 1963, Lewanna and Tom moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico where Lewanna began teaching First grade at Hermosa Heights Elementary School and Tom enrolled at NMSU to finish his degree. As time passed, Lewanna continued teaching at Loma Heights and Fairacres Elementary Schools. She retired in 2006 with 36 years of service with LCPS. Tom taught Biology and retried at Lynn Jr. High. Lewanna loved bowling and belonged to a teacher bowling league. Upon retirement, Lewanna and Tom spent many years trout fishing and camping in the White Mountains of Arizona and Durango, Colorado.

They also loved to travel to the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and Laughlin, Nevada.

Lewanna is survived by her husband Tom. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lola Howard, and her brother Dick Howard.

Cremation was provided by Getz Funeral Home. In memory of Lewanna, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's or Dementia organizations.

Tom would like to give special thanks to Blanca, Monica, Rose, Shay, Shavon, and other staff members at The Arbors who gave excellent care to Lewanna during her fight with Dementia. Also, I would like to thank Becky with Ambercare Hospice as well as Doctor Tyson and Doctor Duran.
