Lewis Lyndon (Lew) Palmer, Jr., age 73, passed into the Lord's hands on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Lew was born on September 26, 1948, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Lewis Lyndon, Sr. and Frances Pierson Palmer, who both preceded him in death. Lew graduated from Kennett High School in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Lew then went on to attend and graduate from Penn State University with a bachelor's degree in Animal Science. Lew was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity while at Penn State. Lew was an avid sports fan and loved watching his Penn State Nittany Lions play football. He also loved baseball and was a lifetime fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. In later years, Lew picked up the game of golf and loved playing whenever he had the chance. Lew was an antique car enthusiast and a member of Borderland A's, a Model A car club chapter in Las Cruces. Lew was also a humble but proud Vietnam Veteran and served in the United States Army as an MP with a Military Police Sentry Dog. He was honorably discharged in 1972. Lew was known to family and friends as a kind, gentle and compassionate person. He had a wonderfully witty sense of humor and a very infectious laugh. He was also a serious animal lover and often stopped to give the neighborhood dogs little treats. In addition to his parents, Lew was preceded in death by an older brother, Paul C. Palmer. Lew is survived by his oldest brother, Allan P. Palmer and wife Janet R., niece Laurie E. Bonner and husband Steven H. Bonner, nephew Jeffrey A. Palmer and wife Sarah B., nephew Eric L. Palmer and wife Rebecca S., nephew Paul C. Palmer, Jr., niece Cheryl L. Dupuis and husband Eric A. Dupuis, and two great nephews and a great niece. He is also survived by Christine Fahey, longtime friend, and companion with whom he shared a home in Las Cruces. Donations to a favorite charity in his memory would be gratefully appreciated. Arrangements will be made by Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave., Las Cruces, NM 88001. Please visit www.getzcares.com to sign the local online guest book.
