Libby B. Davila, 70 of Las Cruces, NM died Friday, November 21, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born May 1, 1938 in Tome, New Mexico to Louis J. and Josefita Baca. Libby was a retired secretary with the Las Cruces Public Schools and also worked with many children teaching them how to read. Libby was a member of St. Albert the Great Newman Center. Mom loved gardening and took great pride in her home yard. She also enjoyed decorating and crafting. She had the special ability of turning trash into treasure and was frequently sighted at yard sales. She used these talents at Sunrise Elementary. She felt that the staff worked better and the children learned more in an inviting environment. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She often commented that she should have had them first! Our beloved Nanny was an incredible woman who touched many people in ways unimaginable. She gave a lot of her time teaching valuable lessons to anyone who would listen and even those who wouldn't. In all the lessons she taught, the young, and the old, the two that have not changed throughout her life are "Be kind to each other" and never say, "I can't". She believed success in life came from never giving up on the challenges life presented. She fought hard in her battle with cancer and never gave up; because giving up is something she never knew how to do. She is survived by her husband Frank R. Davila; daughters, Nancy Syner (Scott) of Las Cruces, NM; Janet Ferrera (Denny) of London, England; Martha Barnes (Jeff) of Virginia Beach, VA; Carla Rosales (Nick) of Las Cruces, NM; Patricia Lucero (Jesse) of Estancia, NM; and a special daughter, Jane Scheibelhut (John) of Denton, TX. Sisters, Dolores Moser of Albuquerque, NM; sister in law, Ramona Baca of Belen, NM, Jenny Deal of Fayetteville, NC; and Trina Sanchez of Tome, NM. Also surviving are grandchildren, Stephanie Syner, Caitlin Syner, Matthew Syner, Robert and Jodie Ferrera, Joe and Raelynn Ferrera, Cassie Ferrera, Ryan Barnes, Travis Barnes, Ashley Rosales, Nikki Rosales, Raeanna Rosales, Dominique Rosales, Jesse Lucero, and Andrew Lucero. Great grandchildren, Jared Ferrera, Ben Ferrera, Zachary Ferrera, Darius Richards, and Baby Ferrera. She was preceded in death by her parents Louis J. and Josefita Baca, brother Eloy Baca and one grandson John Michael Ferrera. A visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7 pm on Monday, November 24, 2008 at St. Albert the Great Newman Center, 2615 S. Solano with the Prayer Vigil to follow at 7 pm. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the same church. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
