Lillian B. Rodriguez, 92, lifelong resident of Dona Ana, went to be with her Heavenly Father while at Memorial Medical Center on September 7, 2015. She was born on April 5, 1923 in Dona Ana, NM to Domingo and Lupe Barela. She is one of six siblings, two of whom survive, Henry Barela of Phoenix, AZ and Irene (Don) Peppard of El Paso, Texas. In 1944 Lillian married Lorenzo Rodriguez and was widowed in 1987. She was the Valedictorian of Dona Ana Elementary 1937 8th grade graduating class and wrote a very impressive speech. Lillian played center position for the basketball team. 1988 Lillian retired after 20 years of service with the United States Postal Service of Dona Ana, the rest of her blessed years she was an "entra a mi casa" & "welcome to my home" type of lady. Many of those years she dedicated time, prayer and hard work to the construction of Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church. "Accomplishments are many … rewards are heavenly." Lillian is survived by one son: Randy (Maria) Rodriguez; Five grandchildren: Lisa (David) Murillo, Judith (Sonny) Parra, Billy Marshall, Ericka (Sean) Burno and Christopher (Marcela) Rodriguez; Four great-grandchildren: Alexis Murillo, Cody Murillo, Jacob Rodriguez and Anasofia Rodriguez and one due in April (Lillian's birth month); along with various special nephews, nieces, friends, and a special neighbor, Molly Abeyta and one remaining special sister-in-law Elsie Rodriguez. Lillian is preceded in death by her parents, Domingo and Lupe Barela; husband, Lorenzo; daughter, Lorraine (Bob) Marshall; sisters, Molly Connell and Corina (Pete) Banegas; brother, Reymundo (Minnie) Barela; and granddaughter, Kathy Marshall. Pallbearers are Raymond Barela, Danny Rodriguez, Jeff Banegas, Cody Murillo, Billy Marshall and Chris Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers are: John Paul Rodriguez and Sean Burno. A visitation is scheduled to be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 6pm immediately followed by a Prayer Vigil at 7pm at Getz Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 9am at Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church in Dona Ana with Father Miguel Macaya officiating. Immediately following the Funeral Mass interment will take place at Dona Ana Cemetery.
