Lillian Irwin (nee Aker) 103, of Las Cruces is at home with God. She passed away on August 18, 2010. She had been living at The Good Samaritan Village in Las Cruces, NM for the past ten years. Lillian lived life to the fullest and enjoyed the love and affection of her family, neighbors and many friends. She loved South Dakota and was proud to have lived all of her life, prior to selling her home in Sioux Falls, in Minnehaha County. She was born on a farm near Colton, SD, April 22nd, 1907. She graduated from Colton High School and Dell Rapids School of Nursing. She married Luray Conrad Irwin on June 25th, 1932, and they moved to Dell Rapids to begin their life together. Mrs. Irwin's husband's work eventually took them to Sioux Falls where they lived and raised their three children. She was a member of First Lutheran Church for 60 years. She loved to play cards of any type, but especially bridge. Recently she could be seen with her son-in-law, Ron Lerdal, playing dominoes in the gazebo at Good Samaritan. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Carol Irwin, of Northfield, Minnesota, daughters and son-in-laws: Myrna and Jim Wylie of Prospect Heights, Illinois and LuRae (Chickie) and Ron Lerdal of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive Mrs. Irwin. Preceding her in death is her loving husband of 49years, Luray; her son, Monte Irwin; her parents and four brothers and a sister. Memorial services to celebrate Lillian's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2900 Elks Drive in Las Cruces. A second memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. also on Thursday at Good Samaritan Village. PDF Printable Version
