In the care of loving hands, Lillie Mae Ashby passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023, while residing at the Village at Northrise in Las Cruces, NM. Lille Mae, two weeks shy of her 90th birthday, was a long-time resident of Las Cruces, NM (63-years) and was born on her parent's farm in Jackson County, Oklahoma on February 7, 1933. Lillie Mae was married to the love of her life, Treaver C. Ashby Jr. (TC), in Clovis, NM on April 17, 1954. Together they had two children, Terri, and Treaver III. Lillie Mae graduated from Clovis High School in 1951 and later, while attending college at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, she worked for her parents as a cashier at the Jameson and Sons Grocery Store in Clovis. In 1953, Lillie Mae received her Associates Degree in Secretarial Science. After marriage, and in support of her husband's career pursuits as an engineer, she moved to San Diego, California so that TC could take a Job with Convair. Within less than one year, they returned to Albuquerque, NM so that TC could start a new job with the American Car and Foundry. While in Albuquerque, Lillie Mae worked for the Albuquerque Title Company applying her secretarial skills. In 1960, with their brand-new baby daughter, Lille Mae and TC moved to Las Cruces, NM where TC accepted an engineering position at White Sands Missile Range. In Las Cruces, Lillie Mae became an active member of the University United Methodist Church, made numerous friends, and perfected her most loved career as a "domestic engineer." It was her priority and joy to be a housewife and supporting mother. Lillie Mae was the only daughter of her parents Dewy Preston and Edna Mae Jameson and greatly loved her older brother Bill and younger brothers Orvel and Bob. Growing up in the mostly rural environment with three brothers, Lillie Mae enjoyed being somewhat of a tomboy. On several occasions, even in her older years, Lillie Mae could be quoted as saying, "I could do anything they did." Lillie Mae, a child of the dust bowel and depression, learned to be thankful for everything she had and to persevere regardless of the situation as hand (a true Okie!). She was empathetic but didn't allow failure as an option for her, her family or her friends. Lillie Mae's advice was, "God is always there to help with problems, because he has certainly been there for me through all the hard times." Lillie Mae was a skilled bookkeeper, seamstress, and cook. She strived to keep an organized household and to support her family and friends whenever possible. She had great confidence in her husband's abilities and loved traveling with him in his private airplane to numerous locations throughout the country. Lillie Mae was preceded in death by her parents Dewey Preston and Edna Mae Jameson, her brothers Bill, Orvel, and Bob Jameson, and her husband TC Ashby. She is survived by her daughter Terri Gale Ashby Cravens (Jim), her son Treaver Carl. Ashby III (Chris) and her grandchildren James Robert Cravens IV, Turner Justice Ashby and Katelin Deanne Ashby.
