Thomas of Las Cruces, New Mexico was in her mother's home when she left behind her battle against cancer and entered into eternal light Tuesday October 18th, 2022. She was 60 years old. Our Lisa was born June 15th 1962 in Phoenix, Arizona to Tom and Carol Thomas and was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. As a young girl, she and her family lived in Morenci, Arizona where her father worked at Phelps Dodge. The family moved to Silver City in 1971. In 1978, Carol and Lisa opened their Merle Norman salon and boutique located, first, in Maxwell's, then eventually at their own storefront. Carol and Lisa were well known in the community as a great resource for makeup, hairstyling, fashion and, for Lisa especially, modeling (anyone who knew Lisa will tell you, she was a beauty, even more so inside than out). Lisa's love for running earned her a spot on Silver High's track team and, in fact, she was so dedicated that her dad had to keep up with her in the car when accompanying her on practice runs! Lisa graduated from Silver High School in 1980 and, after, attended Lubbock Christian University. Lisa could do and did many things; she was a typist for mental health offices, also a student and an employee of New Mexico State University, earning an Associates Degree and working at the bookshop. She could be counted on for technical writing expertise and worked also in secretarial as well as clerical positions, most recently at Family Dollar in Cloudcroft, NM. For decades, she fought a difficult and sometimes silent battle with multiple sclerosis, riding the waves of remission and relapse, looking always with a glimmer of hope for the next "good day." Lisa was a lover of animals and of happy music. Her best memories were of going for drives in the van with her daughters, listening to "Old Blue Chair" by Kenny Chesney, and watching "the show," as her dad called it, which was New Mexico sunset colors shining on the Organ Mountains. Lisa was educated, intelligent, well-spoken, and friendly. She was gentle and kind. Lisa is survived by her 3 daughters, Tabitha (Tutor) Day, Veronica Hudson, and Nora Hudson; by her mother, Carol Thomas; her brother, David Thomas; and nieces, Brandi Thomas, Amber (Thomas) Schulmeister, and Chelsea Thomas. Lisa is survived also by her granddaughter, Bonnie Day; she was so happy to have become a grandmother this year. Lisa is survived and missed by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, family members and friends. Lisa is preceded in death by her beloved father, Tom C. Thomas. Viewing for Lisa will be Wednesday October 26th, 2022, at Getz Funeral Home: 1410 E. Bowman Ave. Las Cruces, New Mexico 88001 at 4 to 5 pm for family and from 5 to 7 pm for the public.
