Loretta Eileen Carlson, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, July 1, 2014 at the Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Loretta was born on April 27, 1925 in Dayton, Ohio. She was the second daughter of Mary and Forest Line. Loretta was a homemaker and will be remembered as a wonderful wife, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Loretta met her husband, Arthur V. Carlson, during the war years while he was serving his country as a Captain at Wright-Patterson Field near Dayton, Ohio. They were married on March 19, 1946 and resided in New Jersey until being transferred to Fort Huachuca, Arizona in 1954. While living in nearby Bisbee, Arizona Loretta was an active member of the Bisbee Little Theater where she had parts in various productions including "Harvey", "The Emperor's New Clothes" and "Solid Gold Cadillac". She was also very involved in the Bisbee Women's Club and enjoyed golfing and modeling. They moved to Las Cruces in 1971. While here she enjoyed traveling the U.S. in their motor home and visiting Europe and Hawaii. Loretta enjoyed, playing bridge, bowling, painting and all of the arts. She especially loved being with family and friends. Always the optimist she was friendly, kind and loved to laugh. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arthur; son, Gregory and sister, Virginia Harbron. Loretta is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Gayle Penzig and husband Kurt of Las Cruces; son Kirk Carlson and wife Karen of Fort Dodge, Iowa; grandson Kristopher Penzig and wife Gina of Topeka, Kansas and great granddaughter Vivian Penzig. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to the Parkinsons Disease Foundation, the local animal shelter or sanctuary, or to a charity of your choice.
