Lorna I. Hyne, August 14, 1928-January 1, 2010 Lorna was born Lorna Ida Sophia Brettmann on August 14, 1928 in Elmhurst, Illinois to Frederick and Irene Brettmann. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Armand and Frederick Brettmann. Lorna was married to Lt. Col. Merrel E. Hyne, Jr. for 28 years. He preceded her in death in 1982. Lorna was an army wife and traveled all across the U.S. and Europe while raising their four children. She enjoyed supporting the Officer's Wives' Clubs and other military functions. She and her family moved to Las Cruces in 1973 after her husband's retirement from the Army. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church altar guild for several years during the 1980's. Lorna was full of life and most enjoyed being a homemaker, caring for her children and grandchildren. She loved gardening, cooking, sewing, reading, and word search puzzles. Lorna died at home surrounded by her loving family after a long illness with heart disease and more recently lung cancer. As her illness progressed, Lorna or Lori as her friends fondly called her, made many friends that she considered a second family. She filled their hearts with loving memories of a woman who had a smile for everyone and a caring ear for all her friends. She is survived by her four children, Susan Hyne of Gillette, Wyoming, Judith Fierro of Las Cruces, Edward Hyne and partner, Terry Pierson of Dallas, Texas, Jeffrey Hyne and wife Susanna of Las Cruces, three grandchildren, Joseph Hyne and wife Stephanie of Gillette, Wyoming, Jackie Fierro and partner, Jessica Torrez of Las Cruces, Jennifer Whiteley and husband, Seth of Las Cruces, and two great-grandchildren, Joseph Hyne and Elizabeth Hyne of Gillette, Wyoming. Visitation will be at Getz Funeral Home, Tuesday, January 5, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. and funeral services will be at Getz, Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery. Pall bearers will be David Michael Barela, Nate Blackwell, Tony Saenz, Raymond Costales, David Guzman, and Robert Benevidez. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in her name to either the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the American Lung Association. PDF Printable Version
