Lorraine Rivera Gutierrez (aka Susan Lorraine Rivera Gutierrez), 86, of Las Cruces, NM (LC, NM), passed away on April 7, 2021, peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Lorraine R. Lorraine Rivera Gutierrez (aka Susan Lorraine Rivera Gutierrez), 86, of Las Cruces, NM (LC, NM), passed away on April 7, 2021, peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Lorraine R. Gutierrez was born in LCNM, to Jose M. (Joe) and Martina M. (Tini) Rivera on May 24th, 1934. Lorraine was the second born of her siblings: two brothers: Joe B. (Tito) Rivera (predeceased) and Jesus F. (Chickie) Rivera, two sisters: Kitty R. Romero and Rachel Rivera. Lorraine served two terms as Dona Ana County Clerk and served that office as a public servant for over 12 years. She then worked in the District Court Clerk Office as Deputy and filled in as Bailiff. Lorraine then worked at the New Mexico State University (NMSU): Regional Resource Center for the Handicapped, the Equal Employment Opportunity Office, the Dona Ana County Occupational Branch and the Dona Ana Branch Community College and retired from the New Mexico State University with much recognition. Lorraine was also named Outstanding Young Women of America. She was very active and was recognized, with sincere appreciation, for her years of dedicated voluntary service rendered and time so freely given to the Housing Authority of the City of Las Cruces (1986 - 1998). She also served on the Teachers Association, and she had belonged to associations such as the Red Hat Club, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). During her retirement, Lorraine's favorite pastimes included being around family, going to casinos and playing bingo. Lorraine is sadly predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 69 years, Arnulfo O. Gutierrez, son Michael J. Gutierrez, brother Joe B. (Tito) Rivera, and her Parents Joe and Tini Rivera. Lorraine is survived by her children: Daughters: Rebecca A. (Becky) Gutierrez (Phoenix, AZ), Cindy Gutierrez-Barraza (Spouse Robert (Bobby) Barraza) (LC, NM) and Son: Ronald R. (Ronnie) Gutierrez (LC, NM). Lorraine is also survived by her Grandchildren: Gabriel Arnulfo Gutierrez (Buffalo, NY), Cynthia Lorraine (Rainy) Barraza Gastelum (Spouse Dan Gastelum) (Phoenix, AZ) and Joseph Ray Gutierrez (Loveland, CO), Great Grandchildren: Robert Angel Barraza Uranga (Phoenix, AZ), Danielle Alyssa Gastelum (Phoenix, AZ), Angelina Gastelum (Phoenix, AZ), and Great-Great Grandchildren Marlina and Marco Jr. Perez. In addition, Lorraine is also survived by her Sister: Kitty R. Romero (LC, NM), Brother: Jesus F. (Chickie) Rivera (Spouse Virginia (Gina) Rivera) (LC, NM), Sister-in-law: Connie Rivera (LC, NM), and Rachel Rivera Significant Other: Charles Cephas, III (Upper Marlboro, MD), many beautiful Nephews, Nieces, Godchildren and Friends. Lorraine was a very loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Godmother, Friend, Mentor, and over all generous, loving and most giving Beautiful Lady. She truly felt joy in all her relationships. She will be missed. Services will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 beginning at 10:00 am with a rosary followed by Mass at 10:30 am at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina St. Las Cruces, NM 88001. Burial will follow at 12:00 pm at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Due to Covid 19 restrictions only 10 people will be allowed at the burial and masks are mandatory for all services.
