The family of Lorraine "SUNSHINE" Henderson announces the recent loss of their beloved mother on January 21, 2009. "SUNSHINE" as she was fondly known was born July 30, 1926 in Chicago, ILL. She moved to New Mexico in 1954 and settled in Las Cruces in 1959 with her husband and children. Lorraine enjoyed reading, dancing, bingo and the many trips to Las Vegas as well as traveling to Ireland to visit her extended family. For over 20 years, Lorraine was a waitress at a popular restaurant on W. Picacho. Her customers called her Sunshine as she always served a little cheer along with the coffee. She was honored with many awards including Hostess of the Year for Las Cruces. She is survived by her sons Tom and Linda Henderson of Greendale, Wisconsin, Tim and Teresa Henderson of Las Cruces and Ted Henderson of El Paso, TX; sister Gertrude Bennett and brothers Frank and Ralph Mitchell; grandchildren Samantha, Ted and Meagan Henderson, JoAnn, Cecilia and Jose Luis Ramos, and Cheryl Carron, Sara McClendon, Thomas and Raymond Danulovich of Wisconsin and many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Basil Henderson; parents Vincent and Harriet Mitchell; brothers John and Adam Mitchell and daughter-in-law Erma Henderson. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 PM on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 PM. Sunshine's funeral mass will be at 9:00 AM on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 also at Immaculate Heart of Mary with Fr. Sean Garrity officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Masonic Cemetery.
