Louise Merck Vest, 75 of Las Cruces died November 17, 2013. She was born to the late Lou and Teresa Merck in Morgantown, West Virginia on Feb. 23, 1938. Louise Merck Vest, 75 of Las Cruces died November 17, 2013. She was born to the late Lou and Teresa Merck in Morgantown, West Virginia on Feb. 23, 1938. Louise received both her BA and MA in English from West Virginia University. She was married to Gerald Vest in Morgantown on August 22, 1964. The couple relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where they had two children, Patrick and Christy. The family relocated to Las Cruces in 1978, after spending three years in Rio Grande, Ohio. Louise loved to teach. She taught at every level. She was a middle school English teacher in Ontario, California when she met and fell in love with Jerry. She taught at Pitt, Rio Grande Community College, and New Mexico State University where she assisted in the development of the Technical Writing Program. Her real passion was teaching Community College courses, and she spent her final years teaching at El Paso Community College. Louise also worked with the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility because of her great desire to help those who were incarcerated obtain an education. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Vest of Las Cruces; Son Patrick and his wife Annie Vest of Los Angeles, California; Daughter Christy and her husband Brent Laracuente of Denver, Colorado; and four grandchildren Ariana, Beau, Daeja Laracuente, Olivia Vest, and newborn Eleanor Isabel Vest. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7th at 1:00 PM at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda Street, Las Cruces, New Mexico. PDF Printable Version
