Lucio V. Tellez, 97 of Las Cruces, NM entered eternal life on Friday January 28, 2005. He was born December 13, 1907 in Anthony, NM to Benigno and Toribia Tellez. Mr. Tellez was a farmer and businessman. He worked several jobs in California as a young man. He then came back to Anthony, NM where he was a farmer. In 1951 he continued his farming in Hatch, NM. After farming for more than 30 years he moved his family to Las Cruces. He owned and operated a Texico service station. He later worked at NMSU. After retirement he worked as a cross guard at schools for the City of Las Cruces. Mr. Tellez was also an avid reader and storyteller. He could entertain one whole afternoon by telling family and historical stories. He experienced much change and advancement in society. He loved to read historical and geographical books and magazines. His greatest joy though, was his grandchildren. He is survived by four sons, Henry and his wife Helen; Lucio and his wife Mary; Raymundo and his wife Bertha all of Las Cruces. And Arturo and his wife Malena of Stockton, CA. He is also survived by three daughter, Esther Godfrey, Mary Lou Trevizo and her husband Manuel all of Las Cruces, and Hortencia DeMarquez of San Jose, CA. His 22 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren also survive Lucio. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Leonor; a son Jose; a daughter, Maria, his parents, eight brothers and four sisters. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday February 2, 2005 at Getz Funeral Home where the Prayer Vigil will follow at 7 PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10 AM on Thursday, February 3, 2005 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Serving, as pallbearers will be Eddie Tellez, Michael DeMarquez, Patrick Tellez, Steven Tellez, Gary Godfrey, David Tellez, J.R. Tellez and Daniel Salazar. Honorary pallbearer will be David O.
