Lucy Maynes Garcia was born January 7, 1929, She joined her beloved husband, Luis, in eternal life on October 3, 2022. Lucy is predeceased by her husband, Luis, of 61 years, her loving daughter, Rosa Linda Garcia, her parents, Santa Rosa and Manuela Maynes, brothers Thomas, Arnulfo, Felix, Valentine, Manuel and Santa Rosa, Jr. "Junior", sisters Felicitas Gomez and Margarita DeLaO. Lucy is survived by her brother Jasper Maynes, her son Henry, and daughters Maria Dolores Martinez and Cecilia "Cissy" Garcia, granddaughter Rosalinda Almaguer, husband Paul, great grandchildren Danika, Taylor and Cameron, granddaughter Leilani Novak, grandson Joshua Martinez, granddaughter Audra Hardy, husband Justin and great grandson Brixton Dean, grandson Shane David Black and granddaughter Hanna Pritchett.

Lucy was born and raised in Deming, New Mexico. She began her nursing career in 1948 as a licensed practical nurse in Deming. Lucy, the second eldest in the family, was met with an unanticipated responsibility, in that she took on the roll as the family provider. At a very young age, Lucy would iron shirts for physicians. She met and eventually began work with Paul Feil, M.D. This is when she became passionate about medicine and obtained her LPN license. She was able to support the family and help put the eldest brother, Thomas, through college.

Lucy met her husband, Luis, on a blind date and they were married three years later. Luis and Lucy settled on a small farm in Fairacres, New Mexico. Lucy continued her nursing career as an emergency room nurse at Memorial General Hospital in Las Cruces in 1954, rotating to the surgical and medical floors as needed. After the construction of the new Memorial General Hospital, she transferred into the pharmacy where she retired in 1998. Lucy was well known for her dedication and patient advocacy and was requested, on many occasions, for many years, as a private contract nurse to provide care to patients after discharged.

Lucy loved to cook. She could not cook for less than 3 or 4 families at a time, so it only made sense that she shares her talent. She and Luis began their business known as "Lucy's Kitchen", traveling from the Southern New Mexico State Fair, to wine festivals, Deming Duck Races, Hillsboro Apple Festival, and different events in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She and Luis would compete in Chile cook-offs. Their Chile entries, known as "Butte Hot Stuff", were usually to hot (spicy) for the judges.

Pallbearers: Henry Garcia, Fred De La O Jr, Mike Lucero and Frank Ramirez.

We would like to sincerely thank Mesilla Valley Hospice for the gentle care and compassion they showed our mother during her last days. We were blessed to have had Olivia Jimenez, RN and Alexis Burciaga, RN caring for mother, along with the nurses assistants and other support staff.
