Luis "Louie" Mendoza passed away October 10, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was born June 17, 1950 in Las Cruces to Augustine and Margaret Robles Mendoza. Louie graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1969. He worked for both Memorial Medical Center and the City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department. Louie enjoyed many years of playing softball and was a fan of the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Celtics. Louie prized a cold Coors Lite and often enjoyed it on his leisure time. Louie served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1961-1971 and thereafter served as Chairman of the board with the local VFW Post 3242. Louie dedicated countless hours to serving his fellow comrades by participating in fundraisers and benefit events. As a Vietnam veteran he truly appreciated and valued a fellow veteran, as seen by his impact on the veteran community here in Las Cruces. Louie is survived by his wife Carol Reid Mendoza; sister Cecilia and brothers Augustine Jr. (Josephine), Patricio and Jimmy all of Las Cruces. He is also survived by his Nino Roberto J. Robles and many nieces and nephews. Louie is preceded in death by his parents, sister Isabel Viola Grijalva , brother Eduardo "Eddie" and niece Annette Marie Mendoza. A Prayer Vigil is scheduled to take place at Getz Funeral Home at 10 am on Friday, October 24, 2014 immediately followed by a Funeral Service with Fr. Narciso Rivera officiating. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Louie's honor to the VFW Post 3242 or Wounded Warrior's Program at 2001 N. Mesquite here in Las Cruces. PDF Printable Version
