Luis Santana Barrera of Las Cruces, New Mexico; beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and Godson; entered eternal life the 6th day of July 2017. He was 16 years old. He was born on October 21, 2000, in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Luis Arturo Barrera and Monica Espino Barrera. He attended Holy Cross Elementary, Columbia Elementary, White Sands Middle School and was currently a Junior at Mayfield High School. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends, playing video games, listening to music, driving his car, camping and traveling. He represented White Sands Middle School as a state finalist at the National History Day Competition in Albuquerque, NM in May 2015. He was also a member of the Mayfield High School football team during his freshman and sophomore years. He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church. He is survived by his parents Luis and Monica Barrera of Las Cruces, his loving little sister Isabella Francesca Barrera of Las Cruces, paternal grandmother Guadalupe B. Martinez and companion Daniel Espinoza both of Las Cruces, paternal grandfather Henry F. Mendoza of Cerritos, California, maternal grandfather Oscar M. Espino of Las Cruces, Godmother Virginia B. Garcia of El Paso, Texas, Uncle Rick Martinez and Aunt Tommi Fisher both of Las Cruces, Uncle Michael Martinez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Aunt Lydia Ponce and husband Paul of Mesilla Park, NM, Aunt Blanca Espino of Tucson, Arizona, Aunt Hilda Baca and husband Cedric of Las Cruces, Aunt Barbara Escalante and companion Jaime Escalante of Dona Ana, New Mexico, Uncle Oscar N. Espino of Las Cruces, many great aunts, great uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Altagracia N. Espino of Las Cruces and Godfather Arturo G. Garcia of El Paso, Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be the Las Cruces Police Department Honor Guard. A visitation will take place at 5:30 p.m., with a prayer vigil to follow, at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 12, at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Thursday, July 13 at 10:00 a.m. and interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
