Lyle R. Nelson, 78, of Las Cruces, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006. He was born April 25, 1928 in Owaneco, Illinois to Russell and Hilda Nelson. He was a veteran of the US Navy where he served his country honorably during WW II. While in the service of his country he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. Lyle R. Nelson, 78, of Las Cruces, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006. He was born April 25, 1928 in Owaneco, Illinois to Russell and Hilda Nelson. He was a veteran of the US Navy where he served his country honorably during WW II. While in the service of his country he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. Lyle had been a retired homebuilder, he loved to work with wood, loved the outdoors and fishing. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends who knew and loved him. Mr. Nelson is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Neva Nelson of the family home; son Kent R. Nelson and wife Linda of Las Cruces; sisters Phyllis Hearn and Mary Ellen Woods both of Winfield, Kansas; grandchildren Zachary and Halee. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lyle was preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia Nelson and his brother Darrell Nelson. A visitation will be held from 9-10 AM on Friday, July 14, 2006 at Getz Funeral Home where funeral services will follow at 10:00 AM. Officiating will be the Rev. Curtis Bentley.
