Madelyn Valentine Harris, 87, longtime resident of Las Cruces, died Friday, June 18, 2010. She was born June 19, 1922 in Canton, TX and was adopted by Angie and Roger Valentine. She was raised in San Benito, TX where she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Anderson Harris on May 23, 1943. They spent the next 20 years in the Navy and retired to Las Cruces in 1960. Madelyn Valentine Harris, 87, longtime resident of Las Cruces, died Friday, June 18, 2010. She was born June 19, 1922 in Canton, TX and was adopted by Angie and Roger Valentine. She was raised in San Benito, TX where she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Anderson Harris on May 23, 1943. They spent the next 20 years in the Navy and retired to Las Cruces in 1960. Madelyn worked for 18 years for the Graduate School at New Mexico State University and was an active member of University United Methodist Church from 1963 until her passing. Madelyn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Nancy Ewing in 1994, and her loving husband Robert in 1995. Madelyn is survived by her daughter, Kathy Santacroce of Dona Ana, NM and her son Roger of the family home. Also surviving her are her four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial Services to celebrate her life will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at University United Methodist Church with Pastor Allan Nesbitt officiating. Mrs. Harris's cremains will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with her husband at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of choice.
