Maggie Okema (Barnett) Jenkins, aka (Kim) Born April 2, 1954 at the Masonite Hospital in Laurel MS The seventh daughter of Guy Barnett and Mattie Lee Barnett, Maggie grew up in the city of Heidelberg, Mississippi, where she attended South Side High School and she attended Heidelberg High School where she graduated in 1972. Maggie attended and was baptized at Beaver Meadow Church of Heidelberg, MS. On May 6, 1977 Maggie joined the United States Army where she served until she received an honorable discharge on January 25, 1978, Maggie returned to Mississippi for brief moment until she moved to Pittsburgh for a few months and then she set sail to East Orange New Jersey where she began another journey in her life. During her stay in East Orange New Jersey she met and fell in love with a gentleman by the name f Melvin P. Jenkins Sr. Maggie and Melvin remained in New Jersey until 1992 until they set sail to New Mexico onto another journey in their lives. Married for 32 years together they loved life and lived it to the fullest until her untimely passing. Maggie is preceded in death only by her father Guy Barnett in September 11, 1995. Maggie leaves behind to mourn her death her mother Mattie Lee Barnet, her husband Melvin P. Jenkins Sr. 2 stepsons; Melvin P. Jenkins Jr. and spouse Debra and their 3 children, and Darren Jenkins his 4 children and 3 great grand children. She also leaves behind 6 sisters from oldest to youngest Samantha Jean Smith, Myra Dean Petty, Georgia Marie Duse, Gory Lee Morgan, Saphornia Connell Stenson (Troy), Nobie Ruth Stitts, 9 nephews 6 nieces, several great nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews and an innumerable amount of friends such as Cheryl Lawrence, Dianne King, Leanne McGill, Brunetta Satcher and Willie Marie Barnett. Maggie will be missed by them all. Maggie looked forward to the hope that was given to us by Christ Jesus when he said at John 5:28 And I quote "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". She had hoped that all those she leaves behind to mourn death would draw strength and courage from knowing that our heavenly father will wipe out every tear from our eyes, and death will be no more neither sorrow nor crying neither will mourning not outcry no paid be anymore. The former things have passed away. Rev. 21:14 Visitation for Maggie will be Monday, August 11, 2014 from 12-1 PM at Getz Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM.
