Las Cruces- Better watch out Pa….here comes Granny! Maida Charlene (Doc) Norris, 90, passed away on July 9, 2021. Our Granny lived a long fulfilling life and was always in the center of any party or gathering even to the end. Born on February 19, 1931 to J.D. and Bessie Brewer in Ysleta, Texas, Charlene was the oldest of two beautiful sisters. At the age of 12, the game of tag between Granny and Pa started in Vancouver. Charlene chased Clyde until he caught her. Holding dear to her heart the letters Clyde wrote while he was in the Navy, Charlene waited until Clyde returned from his service to be married June 5, 1948 to begin their love story. During their 66 years together, Charlene raised their two handsome sons; worked at NMSU Physical Science Laboratory; and deeply cherished her Masonic Family, Deming Odd Fellow Lodge and a PNG of the Rebekah. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Always the lady and speaking kindly, Charlene added generations of friends to her family circle. Our Granny had many lifelong passions - cooking, sewing, reading, playing cards, and traveling. Yet, her most cherishing keepsakes were her family and closest friends. Granny's weekends and holidays were spent filling our hearts and memories with laughter, stories, songs, and dancing. Charlene was preceded in death by the love of her life, Clyde C Norris Sr and her two sons, Clyde C (Red) Norris, Jr and Joe D Norris, Sr, her baby sister Joyce and brother-in-law Chuck Bennett, and grandson-in-law Kenneth Morse. She is survived by her loved ones, Kathy Norris, Shirlee Martin (Tim), Debbie McIntosh (David), Sue Bennett, Karen Siltanen; and grandchildren Rachael Morse, Wanda Charlene Norris, William Norris, and Joe D Norris, Jr. Granny's legacy continues on with great-grandchildren Rayden Jericho Raasch (Alyeska) and McKenzie Norris. Also surviving her are great nephews Johnny Spreitzer (Katy), Michael Spreitzer (Jennifer), great nieces Shawna Zytnik (Jason) and Kristina Young, and five great-grand nieces and four great-grand nephews. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Mesilla Valley Hospice, La Posada at 299 Montana Ave, Las Cruces, NM 88005. Our upmost thanks and appreciation to Dr. William Baker, Dr. Ronald Mitchell, and Mesilla Valley Hospice who provided the upmost compassionate care and guidance while Charlene rested at home among family and friends during her last days. We will always be grateful to them! Charlene requested no service; however, in true Granny fashion, the family will be holding a Celebration of Life at a later date. Grab those high heels and lipstick, Granny - you are dancing now! Go Granny Go!!
