Judson W. Barton, Major, USAR, 79, of Las Cruces passed away January 18, 2007 at Mountain View Regional Hospital, Las Cruces, New Mexico. Major Barton came from a military family stretching back to the Civil War. He served with the US Navy during World War II and with the US Army Signal Corp during Korea and Viet Nam. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and a member of the Disabled Veterans, the Viet Nam Veterans and was a Kentucky Colonel. Major Barton was born and educated in Jersey City, New Jersey and received his degree in Marine Biology at Thomas Nelson Community College while living in Hampton, Virginia. Upon retirement he was a boat wright for the Rescue Yacht Basin, Rescue, Virginia. He has been a resident of Las Cruces for fifteen years. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Teresa; a son Judd (Patricia) and daughter Susan Coonrod (Joseph). Six grandchildren, Chris, Jess, Aubrey, Josh, Teresa and Wendy and great-granddaughter Chelsea also survive him. He was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Sumner E. Barton and brother of Senior Master Sergeant Sumner Robert Barton; USAF (Ret) all now deceased. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. At his request cremation has taken place and a private burial will be held at a later date at Fort Huachuca Military Cemetery in Arizona with full military honors. PDF Printable Version
