Manuel H. Rede, 88, lifelong resident of Las Cruces, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011. "Honey" as he was fondly known was born Dec. 4, 1922 in Las Cruces to Pablo and Lupe Holguin Rede. He was a veteran of the US Navy where he served our country honorably during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of St. Genevieve's Catholic Church where he served on various committees and gave of himself when ever needed. Honey was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a retired Assistant Post Master here in Las Cruces after many years of faithful service. Mr. Rede lived life to the fullest, always a smile and conversation for anybody anytime, but his passion was for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his children Jack Rede and wife Debbie of Meridian, Idaho, Barbara Bowcut and husband Don of Mesa, AZ., Martin Rede of Las Cruces and Rosalie Rede of Albuquerque, NM; Brothers Raymond Rede and wife Lita, Lupe Rede and wife Marylou and Angel Rede and wife Irma; Sisters Mary Dominguez and husband Oscar, Esther Garcia and husband Roland, Lisa Puentes, Rose Witt and husband John; grandchildren: Isaac Rede and wife Brandi, Seth Rede and wife Stephanie, Michelle Perez and husband Ace, Keith Bowcut, Jacque Galindo, Michael Stermer and Jonathon Stermer and wife Charlie; great-grandchildren: Isabelle, Cheyanne, Noah, Makayla, Koda and Evie Rede, Dylan and Malia Perez, Daimon, Devin, Athena and Brooke Stermer. Manuel was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years Teresa Rede, grandson Jason Rede, brother Pablo "Pavie" Rede and sister Eva Ontiveros. A prayer vigil will be recited at 7 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. Honey's funeral mass is at 10 am on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011 also at St. Genevieve's with Fr. Ricardo Bauza officiating. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery with military honors. The honor of being a pallbearer will go to Mr. Rede's grandsons.
