Manuel Perez Ruiz, Sr., 89 years old, passed away at home on Saturday, April 23, 2005, surrounded by his loving family. Manuel was born on November 11, 1915 to Manuel and Louisa Perez Ruiz in Jaral, Jalisco, Mexico. He was the oldest of four children who have preceded him in death. He was a member of the Armed Forces serving in the U S Army with a tour in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1948. In January 1946, he married the love of his life, Margarita Aguilera and together they raised six children. He and his wife were avid campers, teaching their children how to camp, fish, and hunt. Before his health began to decline, not a season went by that he and his sons and grandsons did not go deer hunting. He then replaced his hunting trips with playing bingo. He is survived by his daughter, Enedina Ruiz and companion, Victor Villa of Las Cruces; Freddie Ruiz of Tortugas; Eliberto Ruiz and wife, genna of Las Cruces; Danny Ruiz and wife, Lorraine of Taos; Manual Ruiz, Jr. of Las Cruces; and Armando Ruiz also of Las Cruces. Twelve grandchildren: Jessie Morales, Carla Ruiz, Bridgett Ruiz, Lorena Rountree, Tito Ruiz, Lance Ruiz, Daniel Ruiz, Eugene Ruiz, Heather Ruiz, Armando Ruiz, Jr., Melissa Ruiz, and Alex Ruiz, and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Margarita Aguilera Ruiz; his daughter-in-law, Emma Ruiz; brother, Alfredo Ruiz; and sisters, Esther Ruiz and Amelia Ruiz. The visitation will be from 5 pm to 7pm on Wednesday, April 27th at Getz Funeral Home where the Prayer Vigil will follow at 7 pm. The Funeral Mass will be Thursday, April 28th at 10:00 am at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church, where he was a member. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Officiating will be Fr. Enrique Lopez Escalera. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Lance Ruiz, Tito Ruiz, Armando Ruiz, Jr. Eugene Ruiz, Josh Ruiz, and Alex Ruiz.
