Marcelino Estrada, 94 years old, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on July 12, 2016. He was a life-long resident of Las Cruces. Marcelino was born on May 11, 1922 in Mesilla Park, New Mexico, to Juan and Catarina (Gallegos) Estrada. He married Alicia Archuleta in Las Cruces on August 8, 1945 and they would have celebrated 71 years of marriage this year. In September of 1942, Marcelino enlisted with the Army Corp of Engineers as a private and served in World War II before being honorably discharged. He was employed as a mechanic at White Sands Missile Range until his retirement in 1977. Marcelino is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Alicia, daughters Elva Balderrama of Roswell, NM, Marcia Nicolas and spouse William S. Nicolas, of Stockton, CA and son Marcelino A. Estrada and spouse Kathryn R. Estrada, of Austin, TX. He is also survived by grandchildren Veronica Barcelata, of Phoenix, AZ, Maria Alicia Balderrama and spouse Matthew Bromley, of Roswell, NM, Andrea Paschall and spouse Allan Paschall, of Roswell, NM, and Marc A. Estrada, Matthew R. Estrada, and Alison G. Estrada, of Austin, TX. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Gianna Aalderts, Adrian Barcelata, Annaliesse Barcelata, and Alexandar Barcelata, of Phoenix, AZ and Abigail Paschall, of Roswell, NM and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Marcelino was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Catarina G. Estrada, brothers Pedro and Cruz Estrada, sisters Juanita Mulvihill and Victoria Herrera and daughter Gloria A. Uzueta. Viewing will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Getz Funeral Home with recitation of the Rosary to follow. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Genevieve. Officiating the service is Father Juan Moreno. Graveside service and interment will follow at Hillcrest memorial Gardens in Las Cruces. Pallbearers are Marcelino A. Estrada, Marc A. Estrada, Matthew R. Estrada, William S. Nicolas, John Gill and Matthew Bromley. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice. PDF Printable Version
