Margaret (Peggy) Louise Godfrey of Las Cruces, NM, died May 8, 2011 after a brief illness at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces. Born, Margaret Louise Adams on May 31, 1922 in Eldon, Missouri to her parents, Walter Glendon Adams and Stella Rosemond Mobley. Peggy was predeceased in death by her husband, Paul D. Godfrey; two loving sons, James Jay Pace of El Paso, Texas; John Wayne Pace of Detroit, Michigan; a brother, Harold Adams of Tucson, Arizona, a sister n law, Bonnie Adams of Phoenix Arizona. She is survived by her brother, Robert Adams of Phoenix, Arizona; two daughters-in-law, Janet Pace of El Paso, Texas and Diane Pace of Detroit, Michigan; a stepson David Godfrey and his wife, Twila of Oklahoma; a grandson, Leonard Pace; a granddaughter, Valerie Buckley; two great grand daughters, Mayson Buckley and Amanda Pace, all of Michigan, her close friend and sister-in-law, Tange Adams of Tucson, Arizona and many special friends. Peggy joined the Army in 1942 where she was stationed at Boca Raton Field, Florida and served until she was honorably discharged in 1944 when she married Jay Henry Pace, also serving in the Army. One year after their first son Jim was born, they moved to a suburb of Detroit, Michigan where Peggy went to work for the Government. In 1948, a second son, John was born. In 1963, Peggy divorced and in 1974 met and married Paul David Godfrey. Paul had two children, and was a retired Government worker. In 1977 they moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. Peggy retired from White Sands Missile Range in 1982. Peggy was a cancer survivor and very supportive and generous to such charities as Wounded Warriors, Retired Veterans, , American Cancer Society, NARFE, local Police and Habitat for Humanity. She was an avid supporter of the Republican Party and believed in supporting our war heroes and the young men and women serving in our military. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery next to her husband, Paul D. Godfrey. A family memorial is being planned for a later date. PDF Printable Version
