Maria Antonieta Martinez, 60, of Las Cruces, NM died at home on Monday, February 2, 2009. "Toni", as she was affectionately known, was born August 2, 1948 in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico to Abelardo and Refugio Martinez. Toni was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of NMSU. For the past 16 years she worked for the State of New Mexico Human Services Dept. in Las Cruces and Anthony, NM. Toni attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. She enjoyed photography, playing the piano, singing, hiking, traveling, and being with friends and family. She is survived by her daughter Marisol Araujo of Las Cruces, NM; grandson, Diego A. Araujo of Las Cruces; sister Luly Maldonado and brother-in-law Jose Luis of Ponca City, OK, nephew Luis Maldonado of Houston, TX, niece, Claudia Otto of Ponca City, OK; grandson, Ryan Andrews of Florida, and many other relative and friends, including her best friend, Angela K. Padilla of Las Cruces, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, Abelardo and Refugio Martinez, and her son, Sergio A. Araujo. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A gathering of family and friends will be from 4 to 6 pm on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Getz Funeral Home. The Prayer Vigil will follow at 7:30 pm on Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10 am on Friday, February 6, 2009 also at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. At Toni's request, cremation will follow. PDF Printable Version
