Maria L Saenz

Maria L. Saenz, 87, of Las Cruces, NM went to be with her heavenly father on Monday, January 20, 2014. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Refugio (Cuco) and Petra (Tita) Lopez on March 14, 1926 in Encarnacion de Diaz, Jalisco, Mexico. At a young age, she and her family moved to Aguascalientes, Ags, Mexico to provide a better life for her and her siblings. Later, as a young woman, Maria moved to the United States to provide a better life for herself and her parents. A devoted Catholic, Maria was a long time member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking her traditional dishes for her family, which they truly enjoyed. She also looked forward to her annual trips to Aguascalientes to visit with her extended family and her annual pilgrimage to visit La Virgin de San Juan de los Lagos. She was a hard worker and worked for many years at Stahmann farms and the old chile plant. She took great care tending to her garden and also enjoyed breeding canaries. She love dancing, listening to mariachi music and visiting with friends. But, her greatest joy was her grandchildren, who she took care of with great love and devotion. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother Refugio (Cuco) Lopez, and her sisters Ramona Lopez Velos, Cruz Lopez Hinojo, Dolores (Lola) Lopez Gomez, and her parents Refugio and Petra Lopez. Maria is survived by her loving husband of 51 years Jose Saenz of the family home, daughters Leticia Saenz-Trujillo and husband Arthur of Las Cruces, NM, Gisela Saenz Torres and husband Jaime of Long Beach, CA, and Sylvia Saenz of Las Cruces, NM. She also leaves behind her four grandchildren, Cassandra Torres, Alex Saenz, Joseph Saenz, and Sophia Trujillo. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her and loved her. The family would like to thank Ambercare's Caroline Misquez Solis, RN, and Francis Aguirre, CNA, for the great care and devotion they showed our beloved wife, mother and grandmother in her final days of her illness. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 6-7 PM followed by a prayer vigil at 7:00 PM at Getz Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 1:00 PM at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Moreno officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Masonic Cemetery.
