Maria Venegas

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Maria Venegas. Mrs. Venegas, age 85, of Las Cruces went to be with our Lord on Thursday, January 3, 2013. She was born on March 16, 1927 in El Pueblito, Chihuahua, Mexico to Marcos and Soledad Solis Chavez. Maria and her husband Manuel moved to Tularosa, NM in 1965 where they raised their family. In later years, they made their home in La Luz and Alamogordo, NM before moving to Las Cruces. Maria enjoyed flowers, birds, gardening, arts and crafts, bingo, cooking for her family, mariachi music, dancing, singing, and sitting by her sunny window. However, her true joy was spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren who will forever love and miss her. Mrs. Venegas is survived by her loving husband, Manuel Venegas of the family home with whom she would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on January 17, 2013; her sons Ernest Venegas and Manuel Venegas both of Alamogordo, NM and Jay Venegas of the family home; her daughters Virginia Scott and husband Kenny, Martha Vazquez and husband Guillermo, and Alma (Rosie) Chavez and husband Daniel all of Las Cruces; and by her grandchildren Larry, Tracy, Kathy, Vanessa, Eric, Juan, Valerie, Gabrielito, Guillermo (Memito) , Eduardo, Jorge, Keena, Justin, and Daniel Samson. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren. Maria is preceded in death by her sons Josecito and Victor Manuel; her parents, three sisters and three brothers. The honor of being a pallbearer is given to Ernest Venegas, Kenneth Scott, Larry Scott, Juan Venegas, Jesus Gonzalez, Guillermo (Memito) Vazquez, Eduardo Vazquez, and Daniel Chavez. Honorary pallbearers will be all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 5 to 6 pm on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 at Getz Funeral Home followed by a prayer vigil at 7 pm at Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church in Dona Ana, NM. A funeral mass to celebrate her life will be at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 also at Our Lady of Purification with Fr. Miguel Macaya officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
