Lt. Col. Marilyn L. Steffel, 90, Good Samaritans Assisted Living, passed away Wednesday, September 6 at Memorial Medical Center. Marilyn was born on August 6, 1927 in West Allis, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late Helen (Cheslak) and Frank Steffel. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Cherf, three nieces, a nephew, many cousins, and friends. Marilyn attended Mercy High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduating from Saint Mary's School of Nursing she joined the Air Force. While in service she attended the University of San Francisco attaining her BS in nursing. Following graduation, she received her masters at the University of Maryland. After 23 years on active duty in the Air Force she retired and began a second career at the University of Texas-El Paso where she taught nursing. In her retirement, she enjoyed extensive traveling and was very active with AARP, The Catholic Daughters, and multiple Veterans Organizations. She was preceded in death by her sister, Deloris Neuwirth, along with two brothers-in-law, Archie Neuwirth, and Richard Cherf. A Gathering of Friends will be held at 9:30am with Service following on Friday September 22nd, 2017 at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave. Las Cruces, NM. We would like to thank Marilyn's good friends for all the many things they have done for her.
