Marjorie Sidman "Life is a Celebration!" was one of Marjorie's favorite sayings, and that is how she lived her life. Marjorie Sidman passed December 28, 2020, in her home, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on August 24, 1930. Her 90 years were filled with much love, laughter, and dance. For the past 30 years, Las Cruces, was home for Marjorie. She fell in love with the beauty of New Mexico, the Organ Mountains, the warmth of the weather, and the people she came to know as her neighbors and friends. She told her family often, I am at home here in Las Cruces, the people here are kind and warm, they are gentle with one another. Marjorie owned and operated, Dance Enchantment, a ballroom dance studio. She actively promoted dancing in the area, teaching at NMSU and other local venues, as well as performing in local dance shows. She was an active board member with Dance Las Cruces, involved with Senior Olympics and USA Dance. Marjorie also enjoyed singing with the Good Time Singers and working in her garden, raising roses. During the past few years, Marjorie took great pride in having her youngest daughter, Susan, a World Champion ballroom dancer, pick up her dream and take over the management of Dance Enchantment. Knowing Dance Enchantment would continue to operate as Marjorie's legacy, brought Marjorie great pleasure. Marjorie had a great joy for life, maintaining her characteristic optimism, determination, and smile. She said, her most important accomplishment was being the mother of her four children. Marjorie leaves behind her children, Barbara Kopra, John Sidman (partner Janet Wojciechowski), Joy Sidman Dougherty (husband Robert Dougherty) and Susan Sidman, eight grandchildren, Kris Kopra, Karly Kopra, Mike Kopra, Kimberly Kopra, Toni Sidman, Delany Dougherty, Kailey Dougherty, Jace Dougherty and three great grandchildren, Josue Martins, Mikaela Martins, and Brewer Burton. Prior to living in New Mexico, Marjorie was a registered nurse, medical researcher, director of the Nursing Program at Clackamas Community College, and Head Nurse of the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit at Oregon Health Science University. Marjorie attended Lewis and Clark College, University of Arkansas, she was a graduate of UCLA, University of Virginia, with a master's degree from University of Oregon. A memorial dance for Marjorie will be held to honor her when public gatherings are safe.
