Martha Loneta Wood passed away February 4, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Her life, in fact, had been a struggle with health issues for many years and her strength and bravery in the face of her pain and poor health was an inspiration to all who knew her. Neta, as she was known to her family and friends, is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert Wood. In fact, their 66th anniversary was February 4, the date of her passing. She is also survived by their three children, Ron and Madge Wood of Kerrville, TX, Mike and Donna Wood of Hayden, ID and Phyllis and Jeff Radtke of Las Cruces, NM. She has 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Her family meant the world to her and she was so very proud of them. Neta was born May 20th, 1928 in De Leon, TX she and her husband and children lived in Forth Worth, TX until 1962 when they moved to Southern California. They lived for many years in Simi Valley, CA. In 2004 she and Bob moved to Las Cruces to be closer to their daughter Phyllis Radtke and her family. Since 1969 Neta and Bob were faithful members of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. From that time her family and her faith gave focus and purpose to her life. Her love of her Heavenly Father and her Savior made her who she came to be. She was deeply involved in genealogy and spent many years traveling and studying her family history. She had a lifelong love of quilting which she learned as she worked alongside of her grandmother and mother. She passed that love to her daughter and she and Phyllis spent many hours quilting together as Neta had done with her own mother and grandmother. She was a strong influence in her family and is considered by her grandchildren to be the matriarch in the family and a living force in their lives. While family and friends mourn our loss, we are confident that the Lord knows her well and loves her as we do and has prepared a place for her near Him. She is free from pain and sickness and has completed the purpose for which she came to earth. She has graduated with honors and returned to the God who sent her. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 5-7pm at the Getz Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Venus Chapel with Burial to follow at Masonic Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
