Mary Antonette Merenda, 92, of Las Cruces died Monday March 26, 2007 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. Mary was born in Gallico, Italy on Dec. 12, 1914, to Guiseppe and Dominica Merenda. Mary Antonette Merenda, 92, of Las Cruces died Monday March 26, 2007 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. Mary was born in Gallico, Italy on Dec. 12, 1914, to Guiseppe and Dominica Merenda. At the age of twelve she immigrated with her family to the United States, through Ellis Island, before settling in Detroit, Michigan. Antonette married Ugo Ruzzin in 1935. They had three children who survive her: Mary Reynolds of Las Cruces, and sons, Aniel and Anthony of Detroit. Other survivors include granddaughters, Patricia Reynolds Anshen of Wilmington, Delaware, and Pamela Reynolds Galley of Bedford, Tx, as well as a number of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During her children's growing up years Antonette was a homemaker, while helping her husband in his woodworking business. After his death she had a small antique shop. In 2000 she moved to Las Cruces to be near Mary and Mary's husband, Kent Reynolds. Later she resided at Golden Mesa, and during these years she made made many friends. Playing cards at Munson Center and going on casino trips were favorite pastimes. Local services will be held at Getz Funeral Home on Saturday, March 31, 2007, with viewing and visitation at 10:00, followed by a short service. Burial will be in Detroit, Michigan, on April 3, 2007. The family has asked that memorials to a favorite charity be made in lieu of flowers. PDF Printable Version
