Mary Emma Banegas

Mary Emma Banegas, 79, lifelong resident of Las Cruces, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012. Mary Emma was born on September 3, 1932 to Jesus (Wenche) and Maria L. Padilla. She married James Banegas on October 16, 1953. Together they raised their five children who were the joy of her life. Mary Emma retired from the Las Cruces Public Schools in 1994 after 27 years of service, working as a registrar/secretary, first at Alameda Junior High and then at Lynn Middle School. Upon her retirement she delighted in taking care of her grandchildren and attending their various school and sporting events. Mary Emma was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, James; her children Robert (Ruth), Velma, Gerald (Annetta), Patricia, and Barbara (Carlos); her grandchildren Patrick, Cody (Lisa), Alyson, and Kyle Banegas and Ryan Maez; and her great-grandson, Beaux Banegas. She is also survived by her sister, Olga Sedillo of Santa Maria, CA and many other loving family members. Rosary and funeral mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Internment of the ashes will follow the funeral mass at the columbarium also at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren.
