Mary Rosen passed away peacefully surrounded by family after complications from an infection on April 25, 2015 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and generous grandmother. Mary was born in St Paul, Minnesota in 1940 to Florence and Arnold Johnson. She was a student at Johnson High school (class of 1958), and after graduating from Macalaster College in 1962, she started post graduate studies at the University of Minnesota. She took a job as a high school Spanish and English teacher at White Bear High School, but not before a grand tour of Europe in a VW bug with her brother Rich and cousin Charles, all on 5 dollars a day. In 1963, she went to see "A Funny Thing" with Jim Rosen, and in 1967 they got married. Shortly after, they moved to Wyoming, where they had their two daughters, Greta and Kristin. The family had many adventures together across the states and to Australia. Mary also returned to teaching briefly where she was a favorite at her daughters' junior and senior high schools. However, she chose to leave teaching to care for her mother Florence through her final years. Mary retired with Jim in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and was an active member of their neighborhood association, Spanish conversation group and attended Peace Lutheran Church. During the summers, Mary returned to their cottage at Little Pine Lake Minnesota with the extended family. She also enjoyed yearly reunions with her church youth group from Gustavus Aldolfus church in St. Paul, Minnesota, and kept in touch with family and friends with birthday cards and clever rhyming Christmas letters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Arnold Johnson. She is survived by her husband Jim; two daughters, Greta Dewar (husband Eric Dewar) of Boston, Kristin Scott (husband Dion Scott) of Brisbane; her brother, Richard Johnson and his wife Roberta and their sons Erik and Tom (wife Karen). She was a cherished grandmother of Elspeth Dewar, Ronan Dewar and Drummond Scott. PDF Printable Version
