Mary Louise Amacher of Las Cruces, 82, peacefully passed away on April 2, 2018 with her family at her side. Marylou is survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard Henry of Las Cruces, her children Richard William, Karen Jane (Shaughnessy) of Las Cruces, James Joseph of Albuquerque and her grandchildren Ezra and Sam Amacher, and Mikayla Shaughnessy. Marylou is preceded in death by her parents, William and Eleanor Loesch. Born August 7, 1935, Marylou was raised in Cleveland, OH. Following graduation from Marymount High School Marylou attended St. Alexis Hospital School of Nursing earning her RN degree. On June 12, 1957, she married Richard. After settling in Falls Church, VA in 1963, Marylou began her 40-year OB/GYN nursing career at Fairfax Hospital (VA). She continued her nursing profession caring for high risk pregnancy patients, including conducting ultrasound/sonograms at Georgetown University Hospital (D.C.) until retirement. While working full-time as a nurse, wife and mother Marylou continued her nursing education earning both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees of Nursing from George Mason University. After retiring to Las Cruces with Richard in 2001, Marylou became an active volunteer in the community sharing her nursing skills at St. Luke's Health Care Clinic. Later she served as a member of the Board of Directors for St. Luke's Clinic. In addition, Marylou donated much of her time at Holy Cross Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister and sacristan for daily morning Mass. In the summer of 2014, Marylou organized and collected donations for a free Health Fair held at Holy Cross. In her golden years, Marylou enjoyed playing scrabble and bingo with Richard, entertaining her grandchildren, visiting a homestead in Cloudcroft, NM and shopping for the needs of others. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 am, Friday, April 27, 2018 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda St., Las Cruces, NM 88005. Inurnment will follow Mass in the Holy Cross Saint Francis Garden Columbarium where Marylou will be laid to rest. "Well done good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23.
