Mary Roybal Martinez passed away on January 5, 2005 with her loving daughter, Barbara and son in law John by her side. Mary was born in Santa Fe , NM on April 21, 1922 living most of her life in New Mexico. She Married Fred B. Martinez of Las Vegas, New Mexico in 1939 at St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe. She adopted her husband's extended family as her own; even living with them while Fred served his country overseas during World War II. She and Fred moved to Albuquerque where she resided until moving to Las Cruces in October 2000 to be near her daughter and son in law. Mary was a devote catholic she was fiercely independent and insisted on living life on her terms. She loved to cook and garden and especially loved her grandsons, Stephan and Nicolas. Her recipes for posole and empanaditas are Christmas traditions. Mary is survived by her daughter Barbara Mexal and her husband John; grandsons Nicolas Mexal, and Stephan Mexal and his wife Sharon; her faithful and dearest friend Viola Chavez and Fred's brother, sister and nieces and nephews, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred; her parents Juan and Matilde Roybal; a brother Demetrio "Diamond" Roybal and an infant daughter Dorothy. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at St. Albert the Great Newman Center with Father Mitch Dowalgo officiating. The Rite of Committal will be held at 10 AM Wednesday January 12, 2005 at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. In lieu of flowers the family request that donation be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1100 S. Main, Las Cruces, NM. PDF Printable Version
