Bertha Audetat Silva, "Gramma" as she was fondly known was 88 years young when she was called home by our Lord on December 21, 2015 in Las Cruces, NM. Gramma was born on April 25, 1927, to Emilio and Maria Audetat in Jimenez, Chihuahua Mexico the sixth of eleven children. On December 30, 1955 she married the love of her life Frank E. Silva and together they raised their children. Frank and Bertha loved children and with that passion they became foster parents for over 40 years raising several children into adulthood. Grammas house was always full with kids, grandkids, and great grandkids coming and going especially at lunch time! No one left hungry and special packages were always tucked under your arm with goodies! Gramma's work ethic was infectious! She taught each and every one of her children the art of working hard and helping one another. Her love for cooking was the glue that held the family together, when you walked in her house you would always find her behind the stove stirring up a storm. We would ask Gramma for her secret recipe and she would respond cupping her hands to heart and pouring into the food, saying "Love". Gramma is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Frank E. Silva, her children Nora Corpening (Louis), Yvonne Silva, Janette Silva-Garcia, Frank Silva (Marty), Annette Silva, Faye Silva (Randy Esparza), and Nathan Silva; her grandchildren John Corpening (Gina), Aimee Pena (Chris), Joseph Corpening (Karen), Pulan Y. Garcia, Frank Silva IV, Christopher Silva, Michael Silva, and Logan Esparza; her great-grandchildren Diego and Sophia Corpening (John & Gina), Andrew and Bryson Pena (Aimee & Chris), Theodore Michael Corpening ( Joseph & Karen), Pulan aka B-Boy and Jacqueline Garcia (Pulan) She is also survived by her siblings Ruben Audetat, Emilia Audetat and Ismael Audetat. She was preceded in death by her grandsons James Steven Corpening and Michael Frank Corpening and her son in law Anthony Ray Garcia. A celebration of her life will be held December 30, 2015 at 10:00am at Getz Funeral Home located at 1410 E. Bowman, Las Cruces, New Mexico. Private Interment will be at Masonic Cemetery at a later date. PDF Printable Version
