Our beloved family member and friend, Max Salcido, went on to celebrate eternal life with the Lord our God on February 22, 2021. Max was a lifelong resident of Tularosa, NM, a community that he held near and dear to his heart. He was born on October 27, 1936 to Max and Ignacia Salcido. He was the youngest of three brothers. He graduated from Tularosa High School and went on to attend Western New Mexico University in Silver City, NM where he earned a BA in Education. Following that, he proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years. Upon his return from the service. he went back to Western New Mexico University where he obtained a MA in Administration. It is also where he met his loving wife of 56 years, Margie Salcido. Max and Margie were married in Hurley, NM on May 29, 1965. They made their home in Tularosa and had two boys, Frederick and Kevin. Max was an educator. He served children and families as a teacher, a school counselor, and eventually as the principal of Tularosa Middle School, home of his beloved Tularosa Wildcats! He was also a coach which he had a great passion for but, most importantly, he was a leader, a mentor, and a driving force in his students' lives. Many were inspired and supported by his leadership and encouragement even after he retired from the public school system. Max was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams included Notre Dame and The Atlanta Braves. Although he greatly enjoyed professional sports, he could often be found at student sport events. He was a true Tulie Wildcat Fan complete with jacket, stadium chair, and Wildcat license plate. His motto was, "PRIDE, BABY, PRIDE!" Max was a devout parishioner at St. Francis De Paula Church in Tularosa. Serving God and his church was one of his greatest joys in life. He was an alter server, prison minister, and minister to the sick. He loved his church community and led by true example. He was also a devoted grandfather. He was lovingly referred to as Pappy Max by his girls. They were a true blessing to his life and he loved them all, unconditionally. Max will be truly missed by his family, friends, and community. He was one of the most welcoming people you could ever meet. No one was a stranger to him. He was kind and compassionate. He made people feel important and let them know that they were worthy. He made people smile with his silly jokes and put people at ease with his comforting presence. His selflessness and humble nature will always be remembered. Max is preceded in death by both his parents Max and Ignacia; his brother Fred, his son Frederick; and granddaughter Jacquelyn. He is survived by wife, Margie; his son Kevin and wife Janet; granddaughters Kayla, Jordan, Lauren, and Victoria; great granddaughter Aubrey; brother Isidro; niece Geretta Abeyta (Ben); nephew Robert Salcido; niece Katheryn Salazar (Eliud); niece Liz Montoya; great nieces and nephews Benjamin, Daniel, Cynthia, Zaqueo, Andres, Lupita, Michael, Dillon, and their families; brother in law David Yniguez; niece Korinne Pacheco (Oscar Najar); niece Valerie Rivera (Ron Rivera); great nieces Alaina Rivera and Gabrielle Pacheco. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, services for Max are currently pending. The family remains grateful for all the condolences, prayers, and heart felt gestures that have been extended. Max Salcido will definitely be remembered as someone that left this place better than he found it. Heaven has welcomed a wonderful soul. Arrangements by Getz Funeral Home 1410 E.
