Maxine Marie Witt, 84, passed away peacefully at Cottonbloom Assisted Living in Las Cruces, NM with her family at her side, on October 12, 2011. She was born July 28, 1927 in Spokane, WA to Charles and Blanche Stirling. Known to her friends as Macky, she was a Registered Nurse who worked for many years in ICU, CCU, and ER. In her later years, she was a volunteer art teacher for elementary school children. She loved to travel, especially in the Rockies, and during her life lived in Washington, Alaska, California, Colorado, Ohio, and New Mexico. Macky loved animals, especially dogs, and was never without at least one four-legged companion in her home. She expressed the textures of her life through her painting and her poetry, and her sense of humor (very dry) bespoke her perspective on life's challenges. Her family was always her first priority, and no matter how far away we were, our true home was always at home with her. She leaves a legacy of kindness and generosity that taught us all and will never be forgotten. Macky was a devout Roman Catholic who found her strength and her peace in her faith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Herbert, and her son, Curtis, who was taken when he was just 37. She leaves behind two sons: Scott with wife Fran, of Las Cruces, and Craig with wife Kyle, of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren: Heather, Ben, Aaron, Kim, Erica, Austin and Amber; two great-grandchildren: Lyle and Leesia; and Daniel, whom she took into her home and became as family. At her request, the memorial service will be family-only at a later date. Interment will be at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, next to her loving husband. Remembrances may be made to the animal shelter of your choice. PDF Printable Version
