Michael Andrew Everall Hughes (Mike) died suddenly but peacefully on May 24th, 2013. Born in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England on September 17th, 1929, his formative years were greatly impacted by WWII. After spending his 20s exploring life's possibilities, including two rather unsuccessful years of conscripted service with the British Army (stationed in Egypt), he joined Rank Xerox in 1961, and married and started a family shortly thereafter. Rapid career advancement led to his transferring to Xerox corporate in Connecticut, where he relocated with his family in 1974. He retired to Las Cruces in 2003, where he immediately immersed himself in local activities and charitable organizations of immense diversity. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, June, sons Martin (of New York City) and Simon (of Las Cruces), and grandchildren Matthew and Jennifer (both of Meriden, CT), as well as extended family in the UK. A celebration of Mike's extraordinary life will take place on June 9th, at 3:00p at Peace Lutheran Church, 1701 Missouri Avenue, Las Cruces. A master gardener of both Connecticut and New Mexico, Mike was a lover of growing things, however, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made, in Mike's name, to one of the following charities (just some of many close to his heart): Heifer International; Casa de Peregrinos food program; Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary; UU UNO Scholarship Fund. If appropriate, they also ask you raise a glass of single malt scotch in his memory. PDF Printable Version
