We are sad to announce the passing of Michael Grover Norris of Las Cruces, New Mexico. He died at the age of 79 on April 24, 2024.
Mike was born on October 12, 1944, in Minneapolis, MN to Everal and Helen Norris. He grew up in South Minneapolis / Richfield, MN and attended the University of Minnesota, receiving a degree in Music. He spent the majority of his career selling organs, keyboards, and pianos at Schmitt Music in Minneapolis—a career that he truly loved! Music was always a very important part of Mike’s life, and he played in a variety of Jazz/Big Bands over the years.
He married Helen Engebretson in 1966 and welcomed his son, Christopher, in 1967.
Mike met Rosanne Lehman 35 years ago and they married in 2008. The couple moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 2001.
Mike is survived by his wife Rosanne, brother James, son Christopher (Christine) Norris, stepchildren Daniel (Erica) Lehman, Kristen (Andy) Gilbertson and Carrie Starkson, as well his beloved grandchildren Mitchell Norris, Amanda (Mikael) Sloane, Cooper Lehman, Graham Lehman, Landon Gilbertson, and Oscar Starkson.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, Everal M. Norris, and his mother, Helen D. Norris.
Services will be held at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave, Las Cruces on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 10 am. Visitation will be held an hour before the service.
