Miguel H. Montes, 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 16, 2013 at the New Mexico State Veterans Home in T or C, NM. Miguel H. Montes, 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 16, 2013 at the New Mexico State Veterans Home in T or C, NM. He was born May 26, 1919 in Deming, NM to Raphael Montes and Juanita Holguin Montes. Miguel was married to Eduvijes Alarcon Montes and they resided in Las Cruces, NM. Miguel was a World War II veteran of the 770 Army Air Force Base Unit and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, Philippine Liberation. Miguel worked for the Las Cruces Public Schools and later for the US Postal Service, where he retired in May 1984. Eduvijes loved to cook and Miguel loved to eat. They both used to travel a lot to Las Vegas, Nevada and enjoyed the casinos; with Miguel enjoying the hotel buffets most of all. Following in the steps of his father, Raphael, who was a carpenter and builder, Miguel built the house the family lived in on Mountain St. Miguel is survived by his wife, Eduvijes; sons Peter Montes (Juanita) of Glendale, CA, Edward Montes and Lawrence Montes (Rita Jill) of Las Cruces; grandchildren Peter Marc Montes (Myra) and Alec Montes of CA, Michael Montes and David Montes of Las Cruces; great-grandchildren Ashley Montes and Mark Angelo Montes, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Frank Montes, Pedro Montes; sisters Lupe Baca and Isabel Banegas. Pallbearers are Michael Montes, David Montes, Ruben Alarcon, Gilbert Perez, Alvin Banegas and Raymond Montes. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 21, from 6-8 pm at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E....
