Miguel M. "Mike" Guzman, 86, of Las Cruces, went to the Lord on Monday, Nov. 24, 2008. He was born May 8, 1922 in Berino, NM to Romolo and Candida Guzman. Mike was a veteran of the US Army where he served his country honorably during WW II in Burma. While in the service of his country he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with 2 Bronze Battle Stars, 5 Overseas Service Bars and the Good Conduct Medal. He also retired from NMSU after many years of faithful service. Mike enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, motorcycling, boating, but his passion was for his family. He will be deeply missed by all his family and many friends who knew and loved him. Mike is survived by his wife Herminia Guzman of the family home; son Mike Guzman and wife Cindy of Las Cruces; daughter Mary Lucero and husband Louis of Albuquerque, NM; brothers Daniel Guzman, Jose Guzman and wife Lucy and Romolo Guzman all of Las Cruces; sisters Petra Apodaca and companion Ross, Maggie Estrada and husband Henry and Aurora Montoya and husband Sammy all of Las Cruces. Also surviving him are 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding him in death are his parents, 2 brothers Antonio and Francisco Guzman. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 PM. Mike's funeral mass is at 11:30 AM on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Moreno officiating. Rite of Committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors. The privilege of being Mr. Guzman's pallbearers will be members of his family. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to Gloria Frausto, Casa de Oro and Mesilla Valley Hospice for the loving care shown to our father and grandpo. PDF Printable Version
